Established in 1969 as the Howard Johnson Thousand Oaks Lodge, the hotel began as the local community gathering place for the Conejo Valley and the newly incorporated City of Thousand Oaks. People through the valley would come to the hotel to enjoy Howard Johnson's famous fried clams and their 28 flavors of ice cream. On weekends, locals put on their glitter, platform shoes, and polyester suits to dance the night away at the Disco.
In 1994, the hotel was renamed Thousand Oaks Inn and shortly thereafter, Du-Par's Restaurant & Bakery made it's sentimental return to Thousand Oaks. The local restaurant chain was at it's previous location, next door to the hotel from 1960-1991, until it was demolished for a new shopping center.
In 2005, the hotel joined Best Western International benefiting from a worldwide, toll-free reservations system, as well as centralized advertising, marketing, purchasing, quality assurance standards, training and interior design services.
